Every holiday has its trademark candy in 2013 the candy sales accounted for $57 million with that many candies we consume, at Bloomfield Dental Center we advise our patients to take care of their teeth health and mouth hygiene specially around this time of the year.
Here are some tips on how to do so,
- Brush your teeth at least twice each day.
- Floss your teeth at least once each day.
- See your dentist at least twice a year for teeth cleaning and checkups.
- And of course, avoid foods high in sugar
Brush after eating sugary food
Normally we should brush and floss at least twice a day with eating sugary treats and candy we should do so even more than that to wash away sugar, acids and any other food that may be stuck in our teeth.
Professional teeth cleaning can be as therapeutic for you as seeing a therapist. Once you lie back with your feet up, the truth comes out and you can rest easy knowing your dental hygiene secrets are safe. You leave with a sense of wellbeing and there has been no judgement about your flossing habits or the state of your toothbrush. The only concern is for your dental health.
So how often should you see a dental hygienist? At Bloomfield Dental center, the ideal frequency for you will be determined by your hygienist’s assessment of the current state of your teeth and gums. The examination involves checking for stain build-up, the extent of tartar or calculus deposits, and the presence of plaque. Staining levels can vary depending on whether you smoke, your diet and the type of bacteria present. Calculus deposits can increase according to the mineral content of the saliva and whether you have appliances such as braces, plates, grinding splints or dentures. The amount of plaque present can increase according to the types of foods you consume and how much water you drink.
Drink half your weight in ounces of water every day.
On extremely hot days and when you exercise, you should drink even more water. For example, if you weigh 150lbs, you should drink 75 ounces of water each day. That’s about five 16-oz. bottles of water. Keeping your body well hydrated is crucial to your good health.
In an ideal scenario, where all factors are controlled, standard dental hygiene recall is done every six months. This enables a healthy mouth to remain healthy and free of any pain or problems.
