Happy National Smile Month!
WHAT IS NATIONAL SMILE MONTH?
National Smile Month is one of the largest Oral Health campaigns that is run nationwide, and it is not just about education and stressing the importance of a healthy mouth.
This campaign is aimed to educate individuals about developing and maintaining optimal dental hygiene practices and forming a positive mindset around oral health. A Healthy Smile is a Happy Smile! ?
History of This Campaign:
Originally known as National Smile Week, the celebration was first started in the United Kingdom more than 30 years ago by the British Dental Health Foundation “BDHF”. While we may not be in the UK, that doesn’t mean now isn’t a great time to consider how you can best take care of your smile.
In 2009, National Smile Month was celebrated internationally for the first time when the “BDHF” and its international arm partnered with Oral Health America to bring the event to the United States.
The campaign was judged a success and was estimated to have reached 180 Million readers and viewers. The slogan for 2009 was “Brush for Health” and aimed to establish the message of connecting poor oral health with other systemic illnesses.

The Message of National Smile Month:
No matter how many times we hear it, we still need to hear it; Hygiene is an integral part of overall Oral health.
So, let us use times like these to devote some extra special attention both to our own oral (and overall) health, and that of our friends & family members.
Most likely all of us know someone who could use a little smile shape up, don’t let them go another day dealing with the detrimental effects an unhealthy smile can bring – not only to our teeth and gums but to our entire bodies as well.
It doesn’t matter Where you live, there are special events commemorating National Smile Month happening all over the country.
Whether it’s a fancy new set of porcelain veneers that would make Ron Burgundy green with envy, or simply just a garden variety dental exam, cleaning, & checkup, we are here at BloomField Dental Center just waiting to help shape up our smiles.
The Benefits of Smiling ?:
National Smile Month also puts a focus on mental well-being in addition to the physical benefits of a healthy smile. This campaign highlights the value and beauty of a smile and the happiness that it brings. A smile can brighten up your day or help someone feel more at ease.
In fact, there are many benefits of smiling. Outside of bringing happiness, smiling is a great tool to positively affect your well-being. Here are Some benefits of smiling and showing off your pearly whites:
Heightened mood, Reduced stress, Increased trustworthiness, improved positive thinking, boosted productivity and Enhanced creativity.

How can we Celebrate? Here are Some Tips:
– Brush and Floss:
Brush your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste.
Make the time to brush at least twice a day (morning and night) and floss once a day. However, if you feel food trapped between your teeth during the day, partake of a particularly sugary snack, or enjoy a food or beverage that could lead to staining, a third brushing and additional flossing can be a good idea.
– Try Whitening:
Sometimes brushing and flossing isn’t enough to brighten your smile. If you are battling deep stains, then getting a professional Whitening Treatment can be a great option. Professional whitening can be safer than some at-home methods, and you get faster results. That way, you can enjoy a radiant smile in as little as one visit.
– Watch Your Food and Drinks:
Cut down on how much sugary food and drinks you have, and how often you have them.
Some foods and drinks are more likely to lead to staining than others. Coffee, tea, soda, dark juices, and red wine can be big culprits, but they certainly aren’t the only beverages that can promote the discoloration of the surface of teeth.
Smiles Are Free ?, they’re contagious, relieve stress, boost our immune systems, and smiling considered is a universal sign of happiness.
