Root Canal Therapy

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?

• Pain (similar to a toothache) that occurs whenever you’re biting or chewing
• Discoloration (darkening) of a single tooth
• Swelling and tenderness in the gums around a specific tooth
• Serious sensitivity to cold or hot temperatures that persists even after the source is removed

If one or more of these describe your current dental situation, then you might be in need of root canal therapy to restore full health to the tooth in question and save it from needing to be extracted. How does root canal therapy work?

The term “root canal” refers to the inside of your tooth, where nerves and pulp are stored. These small canals help carry nutrients to this delicate area, as well as expel waste. Problems occur when either a serious injury or a severe area of decay expose an opening where dangerous bacteria can crawl in and infect these canals. Don’t worry, though, our team in Cerritos are here to combat the problem quickly and effectively.

First, we will create an opening in the affected tooth and thoroughly clean out the diseased pulp and bacteria. Then, we’ll seal the area so as to prevent any further infection. Finally, in most cases, we will create a personalized crown in order to restore the tooth’s complete structure. Once we’re finished, many patients aren’t able to tell there was ever a problem in the first place!
While root canal therapy has unfairly earned a bad reputation over the years, it’s actually a very safe and incredibly effective procedure that has a high success rate! Plus, with today’s technology and anesthesia options, it’s reported to hurt no more than receiving a common filling does.
